I had the exact same thing, shit, still do on some nigths, I have a twisting old staircase down to like, a big creaky, wooden panel door, nothign in the basement but four lightbulbs with pull strings, and the lightswtich for the stairs is half way up, fun times

You name it, it's been chasing me in a dream.

While awake, I can remember different noises in the house playing with my fears: floorboards creaking as if stealthy demons were approaching, wind in the drafty attic rattling things, pipes whistling, etc. By the time I got to an age where I realized that my over-active imagination was driving my fears, I had already been terrorized by all manner of monsters. Upon that introspective revelation, I began to invite them...

Never had one. I was never scared of monsters. I have always loved them since weeee little. If there were a monster in bed or closet, he would have been my pal.

I had a night terror/waking dream when I was about five...

Up at our cottage (which only had 2 bedrooms at the time) I shared a room with my sisters. I had the bottom bunk bed, my older sister had the top bunk and my younger sister had a single bed beside me.

I don't know what I was dreaming, but my younger sister fell out of bed and it startled me awake... the first thing I saw was a whispy, ghostly figure at the end of my bed reaching towards me (if I had to describe it I would say it was a cross between the first nasty ghost at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark and the spidery ghost blocking the childrens' door in Poltergeist). My brain had enough time to think, "Yep, you're awake" and I let out a blood curdling scream. My parents came flying into the room because they thought I was being murdered.

I kid you not. I know I was awake and I know what I saw... but I'll chalk it up to being in a twighlight state. It's funny what lingers with you even after 30 years.
